Islam Teacher
Mohammed Aouami Filali
Filali Aouami Mohammed is a teacher of Islam at GO! Athenaeum Antwerp and Vice-Chair of Athena-syntax. He and his colleague Rudi Audiens, a science teacher, co-founded Athena-syntax following long discussions about how they could help their students come to terms with the sometimes troubling contradictions between scientific method and religious instruction, and the value of artistic expression in encouraging them to do so. Filali and Rudi found that through art, students were able to begin to answer existential questions like: Where do I come from? Who am I? Where are we going? So they developed Athena-syntax as a catalyst for self-expression, self-knowledge, mutual understanding and ideological reconciliation.
