Art has an important role to play in all societies. Our aim in this programme was to use the medium of art to prompt students to look at the world differently – outside the box – and explore the human connections between art, philosophy and science. The three most important characteristics of being human.
We challenged students to explore how the arts interpret religious, ideological and scientific principles, reconcile their contradictions, and ask questions like, Where do I come from? Who am I and who do I want to be? And where do I go after this life? We encouraged them to use their understanding of scientific themes like evolutionary theory to question cultural themes like homophobia and sexual inequality, and find commonalities in the human condition.
